Open Garden at Hamlyn Cottage
October 18, 2014 - October 19, 2014| $10
It is described in the Open Gardens Australia guide as:
Sophie Thomson’s own wonderfully exuberant garden. The stone cottage is wrapped in deciduous trees and colourful hardy species that cope with the exposed site. Kniphofias, wormwoods, salvias, buddlejas, rugosa roses and euphorbias. Well-designed organic vegetable garden and huge orchard. Members of the family are silhouetted in rusty metal screens! 0.61ha (1.50ac).
Here is the program of speakers whom I consider to be the best experts in their field:
12noon – Lorraine Thompson from Hillside Herbs will be talking about growing succulents.
2pm – Harry Harrison, President of the Rare Fruit Society of SA will be speaking about fruit trees for a Mediterranean climate.
3pm – Diana Bickford from Bickleigh Vale Farm will be sharing her tips for successful organic vegie growing.
1pm – Mirela Gypsies. This group of talented senior school students from the Mt Barker Waldorf School will be performing alternative gyspy music on violin, cello, double bass and djembe.
Wood fired pizzas, homemade cakes and tea/coffee will be available for purchase.
OPEN 18-19 Oct 2014. 10am-4.30pm. $10.00 per person with no charge for children under 18.
The garden is suitable for prams and pushers but unsuitable for wheelchairs. Sensible walking shoes recommended and parking is in a paddock.
